National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month and to celebrate I'm posting a different Robert Frost (one of my favorite poet) poem each week. I am also taking part in a celebration blog tour set up by Savvy, Verse & Wit . Make sure to stop back on April 15th for my post about how Robert Frost and The Outsiders influenced and led me to the writing path I am on now.

Today's poem by Robert Frost is perfect for the Spring

A Prayer in Spring

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfil.

This Robert Frost poem was copied from a book I purchased for my kids, in hopes of igniting their inner creative whims. Poetry for Young People: Robert Frost

What's your favorite poet or poem?

  1. I hate to admit that I didn't think I liked poetry much....right up until I found the writers and poets on Twitter and their wonderful haikus! I'm quite uninformed about poetry and poets, although I have heard of Robert Frost. ;-P
    I just signed up this morning to participate in the Savvy, Verse & Wit blog tour, as well as NaPoWriMo2010 writing a poem every day in April. I kind of feel like I'm cheating since poetry is all I do write.
    I'm looking forward to all of the other exciting posts and series that you have going, Kristin. *twirly hugs* Dani
